Healing Grounds

Positive Health questionnaire

Welcome. Here you can fill in the Positive Health questionnaire. To protect your privacy, we do not store your answers; at the end, you can save them yourself.

One important thing: make sure you have time to finish the questionnaire in one go, and download your result at the end. As soon as you leave the page, all your answers are gone.

The spider web you will get is not a report card. It is meant to open a conversation, with yourself, with us or with someone else. So answer what you think yourself, not what you think someone else wants to hear.

What is Positive Health?

For a long time, health was defined as the absence of illness. In 1948, the World Health Organization described it as "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being". A nice thought, but difficult in practice: under this definition, someone with a chronic condition or a broken leg could never be healthy, while people themselves often experience it quite differently.

Physician and researcher Machteld Huber therefore proposed a different concept in 2011: health as the ability to adapt and to self-manage in the face of the physical, emotional and social challenges of life. For this research, professionals, patients and healthy people were asked what they themselves understood by health. It showed that people look more broadly than just the body: at bodily functions, mental well-being, meaningfulness, quality of life, participation in society, and daily functioning. Together, these six dimensions make up Positive Health.

An interesting detail from the same research: the more highly educated someone is, the narrower they often tend to view health. People who have been ill themselves tend to take a broader view.

From illness-thinking to resilience

Positive Health adds to the classic view of health. Where the classic view focuses on curing what is wrong, Positive Health focuses on building resilience: the ability to stay in balance, even when life does not go your way.

The six dimensions of Positive Health are your sources of health in this. The more sources you have, and the more connected they are, the greater your resilience. You can see the same pattern in the Blue Zones, five places on earth where people demonstrably live longer and healthier lives. What the people there have in common: eating healthily and mostly plant-based, moving naturally, enough rest, close social ties, and a clear sense of purpose in life.

Why Healing Grounds chose Positive Health

When we were looking for a good way to shape the first conversation with Healing Grounds visitors, we arrived at Positive Health: a tool that already existed and fits exactly with what Healing Grounds stands for, looking at health broadly from body, mind and soul, with the visitor themselves at the helm.

Questionnaire or the Clarity Session: what is the difference?

The questionnaire above, with the familiar spider web, maps out how you are doing right now on the six dimensions. Using relatively simple questions, you get an honest picture of your current Positive Health within a few minutes.

The real work starts afterwards, in the Clarity Session. There, we do not look at what you want to move away from, but at what you want to move towards: which health desire or longing fits you, and which first step you can take yourself. If you would like individual guidance with that, we are happy to introduce you to one of our health professionals.
